WATCH: Chris Hemsworth confirms new THOR movie will be filmed down under

Chris Hemsworth won’t have far to travel for filming of Marvel’s new Thor movie, with the God of Thunder himself (aka Hemsworth) confirming it’s happening right here in Australia!

The Byron Bay local made the exciting announcement in Sydney on Friday, revealing Thor: Love and Thunder will be shot in NSW next year.

It comes after the hugely popular Thor: Ragnarok was filmed in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, with Queensland hoping to lure the film back.

Hemsworth said he is looking forward to filming the next instalment of the Marvel series, which also stars Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson, down under.

“It’s an interesting feeling after End Game because it was like where do you go from there, but it’s about making great films and to still be a part of the Marvel/Disney family and to be able to make another film is fantastic.”

It’s understood the superhero flick will be directed by New Zealand’s Taika Waititi, with filming for the movie expected to start in August next year.

Federal Communications Minister Paul Fletcher said it’s great news for local businesses, workers and Australian film students.

“The film is expected to invest over $178 million in our economy, create up to 2500 jobs and use the services of around 1650 businesses,” he said.

“Australia has an ongoing relationship with Marvel Studios and I’m very pleased they will return to our shores again next year to take advantage of our world-leading screen industry.”
