WATCH: Confronting video shows vet removing shoe from snake’s stomach

It’s not often a video of a vet performing an operation on a snake goes viral, but that’s what’s happening today after a rather hungry python decided to devour a human’s slipper shoe.

HerpVet, a reptile vet at Greencross Jindalee Veterinary Clinic posted the gory vision to Facebook on Monday with the snake’s background story.

It turns out the slithery reptile was brought into the clinic by a local snake catcher after it was found in a home having ingested a slipper.

“You can’t make this stuff up folks,” the vet wrote on the Facebook post.

“This made for one of the most impressive radiographs I have seen. Surgery was performed under general anaesthetic to remove the foreign object, with a procedure called a coeliotomy and gastrotomy.

“After removal of the slipper, the stomach was closed in two layers, the body wall muscle was closed and surgical staples were used for the skin.”

The vet added that the coastal carpet python was then given fluids, anti inflammatories and pain killers.

“He woke up well and is off to rehabilitation in a couple of days.”
