WATCH: Cyclists narrowly escape car driving on wrong side of the road in Southport

FOOTAGE from the Police helicopter shows just how close Gold Coast drivers and cyclists came to carnage, as a man allegedly sped from officers in Southport.

Vision from PolAir 1 has just been released, showing the car driving on the wrong side of the road and through red lights, before being parked at Southport Sharks on Sunday afternoon.

Police allege they spotted the man driving erratically along Scarborough Street around 3.00pm and attempted to pull him over however the driver failed to stop and sped off.

25 minutes later, the driver turned off Musgrave Avenue and into the sports club car park before heading off on foot.

Police located him soon after and he was arrested without incident.

A 20-year-old Molendinar man has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, and one count each of failing to stop a motor vehicle, possession dangerous drugs, unlawful use of motor vehicle, and driving without a driver’s licence.
