WATCH: Frightening moment armed man robs Southport petrol station

POLICE have released CCTV vision of the frightening moment a man robs a Southport petrol station while armed with a metal pole.

The robbery happened just before 9.00pm on Monday, at a business on Ferry Road.

Police said the man jumped the counter while brandishing the metal bar and demanded the two employees open the cash register.

The thief then left the store with a sum of cash before attempting to jump into a woman’s car which was parked on Zircon Street.

“While leaving the business, the man approached a woman who was inside her car which was parked on Zircon Street,” police said in a statement.

“The man attempted to open the driver’s side door however the woman managed to drive away before he could enter the vehicle.”

She returned a short time later and spoke with police at the scene.
