WATCH: Games volunteers recognised for outstanding contribution

Twenty-five volunteers who went above and beyond during the Games have been recognised for their efforts.

In today’s Gold Coast Bulletin, their stories have been shared alongside the names of every single Games volunteer in a special lift-out magazine.

Gold Coast Bulletin Editor Ben English told myGC the lift-out was a way to say thank you to every person who gave up their time to volunteer at the Games.

“Whenever I went to an event, the volunteers really set the tone. They were so much fun with their high fives and their general positivity,” he said.

The 25 stand-out volunteers were also acknowledged in a special ceremony at Sea World on Thursday, where they were presented with a certificate and a prize.

See what happened at the award ceremony, and learn more about some of the honoured volunteers in the video below:

Volunteer Darren Eggington told myGC he had to put his hand up to volunteer at the Games, as it was a once-in-a-lifetime event.

“I’ve lived here my life… I wanted to show who we are,” he said.

Darren said he was thrilled to be recognised.

“For this to be put on for us, is just fantastic.”
