A local family have had an interesting Christmas Day, helping police apprehend a boatie allegedly seen driving dangerously through Gold Coast canals.
The commotion unfolded around 6am on Wednesday, when police received multiple calls about a man driving dangerously in a small boat through the waterways near Chevron Island.
Officers followed the man from land along the waterways asking him to come ashore, however he allegedly continued to speed off.

A Broadbeach Waters family watching on from their home nearby then came to the rescue, offering police their jetski to pursue the man on the water.
The officer then jumped on the family’s jet ski and followed the man to a nearby location, where two other officers helped take him into custody.
“Police would like to thank the family that helped officers on the day, a true Christmas gift,” Qld Police said in a statement.
A 48-year-old man is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court today charged with a string of offences.
