WATCH: Hugh Jackman recounts failed first audition

He may be best known for playing Wolverine, but Hugh Jackman also did an outstanding portrayal of Jean Valjean in the most recent film version of Les Miserables.

But, what if he had taken the advice handed out at his first audition?

The Australian triple-threat has shared how he was told Stars from the legendary French musical was a “terrible song” for his voice.

Jackman has recounted the tale as part of celebrations for the Tony Awards, and explains he “only had the sheet music for one song and that was Stars“.

His voice cracked near the end and he “saw the hope in the panels’ faces just fall”.

“The musical director said that is a terrible song for you and you will never be singing that again,” the Australia star remembers.

Maybe he was right, as the song belongs to the character Javert, played by Russell Crowe in the 2012 movie, but we think ‘our Hugh’ can sing any song he likes!
