Former World Surfing Champion Joel Parkinson will take part in a Surf & Sand Challenge next month to raise funds and awareness for national charity Youth Insearch.
The Gold Coaster will attempt to ride 100 waves for 100 local youths from 8am until 3pm on Sunday 20 June at Rainbow Bay, with funds to be raised through Fund My Challenge.
“The more I think about it, I’m starting to think it’s a bigger task than I thought,” Joel told myGC.

“Hopefully it’s going to be one of those beautiful Gold Coast days… with great little waves. Hopefully we can get a 100 people on a wave and really make some fun of it, and raise some good funds.”

CEO of Youth Insearch Stephen Lewin told myGC Youth Insearch has helped over 30,000 young people since 1985, and currently assists around 1,000 young people per year across NSW, VIC and QLD.
“Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under 25, and we believe peer to peer programs are the missing link to support young people’s mental health and wellbeing,” he said.
“We are very thankful for yours and Joel’s support and generosity and are 100% on board with this event. This will help us continue our work running one of the most successful youth intervention programs in the country.”
Joel Parkinson’s Surf & Sand Challenge will be held at Rainbow Bay on June 20 from 8am, with the community invited to surf with Joel from 8am to 9am. For more details visit fundmychallenge.com
