WATCH: Kids with disabilities to shine at Gold Coast Cabs Annual Athletics Day

More than 1000 Gold Coast kids with disabilities are set to take part in the Gold Coast Cabs Annual Athletics Championships at the Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre next month.

Beginning in 1986, the carnival has grown from 80 athletes from 3 schools to today catering for more than 1000 athletes from 35 schools.

The event is also the only athletics carnival on the Gold Coast that is specifically for children with a disability, and allows them the opportunity to participate at a competitive level.

This year, kids will be able to have a go at more than 400 events including track sprints, wheelchair events and a sports skills challenge.

Miami State High School Student Milan Falvey told myGC she loves attending the Championships and having a go at some of the events.

“You can have fun with your friends and participate in all the sports. It’s a great time!” she said.

“I am looking forward to everything. I love that you can meet new people…. and make new friends.”
