WATCH: Man hid in wheelie bin for over an hour before robbing Gold Coast resident

Police are hunting a young male who allegedly hid in a Gold Coast resident’s wheelie bin before assaulting and robbing him.

The frightening attack happened around 6.30am on Monday, when the alleged thief jumped a fence into the yard of a home on Thompson Street in Biggera Waters.

He then climbed into a wheelie bin, where he waited for over an hour, before pouncing on his victim when he took out the rubbish.

“Just before 8am, a male resident of that address located the man in the bin and was subsequently threatened by the offender who demanded his phone and keys,” Queensland Police said.

The pair became involved in a fight, with the resident suffering a wound to his hand, before the offender fled on foot with the man’s property.

Investigators have now released CCTV of a young man running through the streets, with the hope someone may recognise him.

Anyone with information is being urged to come forward.
