A school with a difference in Varsity Lakes is helping disengaged kids achieve their full academic potential.

Mastery Schools Australia is one of very few schools in Australia that focuses exclusively on the needs of students who have fallen behind or are experiencing learning difficulties.

Managing Director Michael Roberts told myGC they opened this year after seeing a demand for a school that catered specifically for children who struggle in a regular school environment.

“We opened this year with 20 students in January and we are currently at our capacity of 100 students. We do plan on growing next year, up to 200 students,” he said.

“Mastery Schools Australia is different from other schools because we are set up specifically for students with learning difficulties to help them academically.

“The three main things that are different about our school are that we have a longer school day, we have teacher support, and our programs are targeted exactly to the students level.”

Mr Roberts said the school has a particular focus is on students with dyslexia and reading difficulties, as well as those who have problems learning mathematics.

“Our aim for our students when they leave is to be confident and capable learners, ready to take the next part of the learning journey on.”
