WATCH: Moment fugitive is busted hiding in truck at border

Australia’s most wanted fugitive has now been slapped with a fine by Queensland Police after he was busted trying to cross the border from NSW into Queensland early this morning.

A two-week national manhunt for Mostafa Baluch finally came to an end around 1am on Wednesday, when officers busted the 33-year-old hiding in the boot of a Mercedes-Benz inside a shipping container on the back of a truck.

Incredible body-worn camera vision released by police this afternoon shows the moment officers made the shock discovery at the Gold Coast border checkpoint.

In the footage, police can be heard shouting “armed police… hands up… step away from the car” as Baluch walks out of the container and is arrested.

The alleged fugitive, who was wanted over an alleged $270 million cocaine smuggling operation, will now spend another night behind bars on the Gold Coast after his extradition hearing was adjourned to tomorrow.

However, he has been slapped with a fine by Queensland Police for failing to comply with COVID-19 border direction.

The truck driver allegedly carrying the container Baluch was hiding in has also been arrested.

The 46-year-old man was taken into custody by officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command during a vehicle stop near Grafton just before 9am on Wednesday.

The Yowie Bay man has been charged by NSW Police with do act intending to pervert the course of justice and is due to appear in Grafton Local Court this afternoon.

He has also been given two traffic infringement notices relating to heavy vehicle offences by Queensland Police, as well as a fine for failing to comply with COVID-19 border direction.

The truck has also been seized and will undergo forensic and compliance-related examinations.

Investigations are ongoing.
