Police investigating a horror crash at Gaven this morning are looking into whether a road rage incident contributed to the crash.
A gold Volkswagen Passat crashed into a tree at speed on the northbound Smith St off-ramp from the M1 at around 7.20am.
A passer-by cut the driver’s seatbelt and got him out of the car before the vehicle burst into flames.

The 51-year-old man was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Investigations have revealed the Volkswagen was involved in an incident with a blue Tesla on Nerang Connection Rd in the minutes leading up to the crash.
The two vehicles are then seen travelling northbound on the M1 before exiting at Smith St.
CCTV footage shows the Volkswagen speeding up towards the rear of the Tesla before the Tesla changes lanes.
The Volkswagen is then seen changing lanes closely in front of the Tesla
Witnesses have told Police the Tesla stopped at the crash site briefly where the driver opened the door before closing it and driving off.
Police are now appealing for the driver of the Tesla to come forward.
They are also urging anyone who may have captured either vehicle on dashcam on Nerang Connection Rd, the M1 northbound or the Smith St exit to contact them.
