WATCH: Sea World release turtle at Fingal Beach

The Sea World team together with the Australian Seabird Rescue Ballina team have this morning released a large Loggerhead Turtle back to the ocean at Fingal Beach after a four-month rehabilitation stint.

Yosemite, as she was affectionately named, came into the care of the Australian Seabird Rescue Ballina team in January after being found with a large hook in her mouth by a local dive company off Cook Island.

She spent two months rehabilitating at the Australian Seabird Rescue Ballina unit before being transported to Sea World for her strength and conditioning rehabilitation.

Sea World Turtle Rehabilitation Coordinator, Siobhan Houlihan said it is great to outcome for Yosemite to be released.

“The rescue and rehabilitation of Yosemite was a collaborative effort between Sea World, the Australian Seabird Rescue Ballina and the Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital and it was fantastic to be able to release her back to Fingal Beach this morning,” she said.

“It was great to also have the community come down to the beach and support the wonderful work these amazing organisation do to support our local wildlife.”
