WATCH: Shocking moment Qld cop is assaulted with home-made taser

Police have released confronting footage showing the moment one of their officers is allegedly assaulted by a wanted man armed with a home-made weapon.

The frightening incident happened at Minyama on the Sunshine Coast around 8.00pm last night.

Police said a 35-year-old male senior constable was conducting road patrols along Nicklin Way when he intercepted a Mitsubishi SUV.

“After speaking with the driver, further inquiries led to the passenger of the car, a 36-year-old man, attempting to run from the scene,” Queensland Police said.

“It will be alleged that when apprehended moments later the man used a home-made device, similar to a taser, to shock the police officer.”

The man, who was wanted on an arrest warrant, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of possess dangerous drugs and one count each of serious assault police.

He was also charged with unlawful possession of weapons, obstruct police, possession of a knife in a public place and possess utensils.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.

Fortunately, the officer managed to escape serious injury.
