Weird and wacky performers wanted for Buskers By The Creek

A call out has been issued for special acts to apply for this year’s Buskers By The Creek.

Organisers are on a mission to make this year’s Currumbin Creek festival the weirdest and wackiest in its six-year history.

Buskers by the Creek Founder and Director Cindy Jensen is calling on the “great unknowns” submit an application to join the fun.

“We’ve once again had a fabulous response from the busking community and are now on the hunt for those special acts that will take the festival to the next level,” she said.

“We are keen to tap into the great unknowns, those weird and wonderful performers who have unique talents that deserve to be shared with the most supportive audiences they’ll ever have the pleasure of performing for.

“Nothing is too absurd or offbeat. I don’t care if you’re a human scarecrow, can juggle watermelons or are the proud owner of dancing poodles, we want to hear from you.”

Ms Jensen is also urging performers in two minds about applying to take the plunge.

“I know there are amazing people out there who are second-guessing themselves but they should seriously just do it,” she said.

“There are so many talented but humble performers hiding away from the world, thinking they don’t have what it takes to make the cut, but Buskers by the Creek is the perfect environment to get out of their comfort zone.

“I’d also appeal to anyone who has a friend such as I’ve described to do everything you can to get them to apply by July 31. In fact, why not just apply for them and help make their dreams come true?”

With a 2019 theme of ‘Loveland’, Buskers by the Creek is expected to attract a crowd of more than 20,000 visitors as it “spreads the love” and celebrates the age of Aquarius.

This year’s event will also feature the return of the prestigious ‘Battle of the Buskers’, which sees top singer/songwriters go guitar to banjo to win a VIP performance package at the renowned Airlie Beach Festival of Music, a paid gig at Surfers Paradise LIVE, a secured place in the Bluesfest Busking Competition, cash, a publicity package and more.

Busker applications are open until July 31. For more information, visit buskersbythecreek.com.au/buskers.
