Wet weather causing havoc for GC motorists

UPDATE @ 8.15am: Wet weather is continuing to cause havoc for motorists on the Gold Coast this morning, with a series of crashes reported.

The latest accident happened on the Beaudesert Nerang Road Bridge at Clagiraba just before 8.00am.

Several vehicles are believed to have collided, with traffic at a standstill.


The Department of Transport and Main Roads said all lanes have been affected, and urged motorists to avoid the area or allow extra travel time.

EARLIER @ 6.30am: Motorists are being warned to expect delays on the Smith Street Motorway following a single-vehicle crash this morning.

The accident happened northbound at Exit 66, on the Smith Street on ramp, just before 6.30am.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads said at least one lane has been blocked, with long delays expected.

The accident comes after a 40-year-old woman was killed in a crash on Smith Street just after 6.00pm last night.

Motorists are being urged to drive with caution in the wet weather. Remember, take your time, turn your lights on, and leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front.
