Wet weather to continue on the Gold Coast this week

GOLD Coasters, don’t put the brollie away yet.

The Glitter Strip is in for more rain this week, with forecasters predicting showers through until at least Wednesday, as well as strong winds and powerful surf.

So far this month 163mm of rain has drenched the city, well above the August average of 61mm. 70mm of rain fell on the weekend alone.

Meteorologist Illona Coote said the Gold Coast is in for similar rainfalls early this week.

“We’ve got some isolated showers around the south-east coast today but as the week progresses we are going to start to see an increase in weather from the south,” she said.

“Those showers will increase in intensity. The heaviest rain will fall on Wednesday, with rainfall totals of about 30-50mm.

“After Wednesday we are expecting the low to move offshore again.”
