RESCUERS have freed a baby whale after it became entangled in shark nets near Southport this afternoon.
The whale calf became caught in the nets off shore of Main Beach shortly after 2pm.
It’s distressed mother waited nearby for Sea World staff to cut the mammal free.

The pair have since been reunited and are continuing on their annual migration.
Sea World staff are ensuring the gentle giants steer clear of the nets.
