‘Whistleblower’ cop found not guilty of misconduct

Former Gold Coast Police officer Rick Flori has been found not guilty of misconduct in public office.

Mr Flori was charged with two counts of misconduct following the leaking of footage of the Police bashing of a handcuffed man at Surfers Paradise Police Station in 2012.

Prosecutors argued during the trial that the former Sergeant deliberately leaked the footage to undermine colleague David Joachim because of a vendetta.

The second charge was dismissed after the judge ruled there was no evidence that leaking the footage caused detriment to then Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson.

The jury retired on Tuesday to consider its verdict and remained deadlocked today before the judge urged them to reconsider all the evidence.

The jury then returned a majority verdict of 11-1 after failing to reach a unanimous decision.
