Wild foot chase ends in dramatic arrest in Surfers Paradise

Two young men have been arrested and charged after allegedly leading police on a wild foot chase through Surfers Paradise this morning.

Officers were called to the Esplanade and Cavill Avenue shortly before 7am after the two 18-year-old men were seen playing chicken with oncoming traffic.

At one stage, one of the men is believed to have jumped on the bonnet of a passing car.

When officers arrived the two delinquents split up and took off in opposite directions in an effort to ditch police.

A male and female officer chased the pair up the Esplanade before they were eventually detained and arrested.

The female officer ripped the shirt off one of the men during the dramatic arrest which was caught on camera.

“Get on the ******* ground. Get on the ground. Get on the ground you ******* idiot,” the female officer could be heard shouting.

One of the 18-year-old men was from NSW. He was charged with causing a public nuisance and obstructing police.

The second 18-year-old man was a local from Biggera Waters. He was charged with wilful damage, obstructing police and possessing cannabis.

It’s understood both men will front Southport Magistrates Court on 15 August.
