Gold Coast motorists are being urged to drive with patience this afternoon, with a double whammy of severe thunderstorms and the start of school holidays causing chaos on the roads.
The Pacific Motorway is currently at a complete standstill southbound all the way from Eight Mile Plains to Highland Park.
There’s a small reprieve before the traffic jam begins again from Mudgeeraba to Palm Beach.

Northbound isn’t much better, with long delays being experienced from Tugun to Mudgeeraba and again from Highland Park to Coomera.
Power outages are also causing chaos on local roads, with multiple traffic lights blacked out in Southport, Paradise Point and Biggera Waters.
The storms have struck on the same day school wraps up for the year, with thousands of families heading away for the festive break.
