A pelican suffering botulism is making a great recovery at the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.
Dr Michael Pyne told myGC Carla the pelican was very ill when she was brought to the hospital. “Botulism is caused by a naturally occurring toxin found in shallow and stagnant waterways and pelicans are really susceptible to it,” he said.
“Carla couldn’t lift her head when she first came in but she has made a really good recovery. We are now just making sure she is in good condition for release.”
