Wildlife Wednesday: Ictus the Cormorant

A waterbird has been admitted to the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital three times, even though he is perfectly healthy.

Doctor Michael Pyne told myGC there is absolutely nothing wrong with Ictus the Cormorant. “He is a bit of a freeloader,” he said.

“Ictus is a wild bird but he is very, very tame. He has been going up to people and begging for food. We’ve tried to find better release sites but he keeps turning up back at the hospital. He is a bit of a troublemaker.”

Dr Pyne said the team is trying workout a long term outcome for Ictus.

“We are looking to long term possibilities of release away from people where Ictus has to look after and feed for himself.”
