WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY: Louie the baby ringtail possum

A baby possum found in a plant pot is receiving the care he needs at the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital.

Veterinarian Andrew Hill told myGC they are not sure how Louie became separated from his mother.

“Normally these guys live on their mum’s backs when they are at this stage,” he said.

“We need to make sure he is happy and healthy, so we are going to check him over. We are mainly concerned about things like injuries and trauma from when he has come off [mum’s back].”

Mr Hill told myGC they are inundated with baby animals at this time of year.

“We are getting so many of these guys into the hospital at the moment – Spring has sprung so there are babies out and about.”
