Wildlife Wednesday: Mark the Magpie

A magpie has had to have a toe amputated after it became entangled in fishing line.

Mark the Magpie is slowly recovering in the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital after he was brought in with the fishing line wrapped around his toe.

“The fishing line literally cut right into his toe and it was just dangling by the tendons. It was a really nasty and painful injury,” Dr Michael Pyne told myGC.

Dr Pyne said Mark is a very mischievous bird. “He is a little escape artist. Mark has worked out how the latches on the cage work so he lets himself out and flies around and has a bit of fun.”
