Wildlife Wednesday: Reg the Red-bellied Black Snake

Reg the Red-bellied Black Snake has multiple bite wounds and a number of fractured ribs after being attacked by a dog on the Gold Coast.

Dr Michael Pyne told myGC the venomous snake is set to have a long recovery at the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital. “It’s very painful for Reg to move around. He is going to be ok in the long run, but there is going to be a lot of pain relief injections and a lot of follow-up here at the hospital. Reg is looking at 4-6 weeks  for him to recover.”

Dr Pyne said treating a venomous snake can be tricky. “We have to be very wary when we are treating a venomous snake like Reg. You have to be patient, take your time and be incredibly careful.”
