Woman, 50, woke to find intruder in her bedroom, NSW Police say

A woman has been subjected to a terrifying experience after waking to find an intruder standing in her bedroom in her Newcastle home.

Police said the 52-year-old woman was asleep in her Woodstock Street home in Mayfield when, around 5am on Tuesday 3 May, a 50-year-old man broke in and entered her bedroom.

The woman allegedly woke to find the man standing near her bed.

Police said the woman got up and followed the man to a veranda where he allegedly performed lewd acts towards her, before leaving the premises.

The 50-year-old was arrested this week at a home in Bull Street and was charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, commit act of indecency and stalk/intimidate intend to cause physical harm.

He was scheduled to appear in Newcastle Local Court yesterday.
