Woman, 73, charged over $100,000 cannabis haul

A 73-YEAR-OLD woman has been charged with possessing and dealing drugs after police allegedly found more than nine kilograms of cannabis in the boot of her car during a vehicle stop in regional NSW.

Police said officers became suspicious of the vehicle after spotting it and several other cars stopped in a laneway near the Golden Highway at Dubbo just after 6pm on Tuesday.

As the officers approached the area, one of the vehicle’s allegedly started to drive off. It was intercepted a short distance away and searched by police.


During the search, it’s alleged officer founds several plastic bags filled with cannabis in the boot.

The drugs were seized and the occupants of the car, a 53-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman, were arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station.

Police said the cannabis weighed just over 9kg and had an estimated potential street value of approximately $100,000.

The man and woman were each charged with supplying and possessing a prohibited drug.

They were remanded in custody overnight and due to appear in Dubbo Local Court today.
