Woman accused of assaulting baby with a pole in domestic violence attack

A 27-YEAR-OLD woman will face court today, charged with assaulting an 11-month-old baby with a pole in a shocking domestic-violence related attack at a house in Sydney’s west.

Police were called to the Prairiewood home just after 8.30am on Saturday after the woman allegedly assaulted the infant with a small pole and threatened an older woman aged in her 50s, believed to be the baby’s grandmother.

The 27-year-old was arrested at the Clegg Place address and taken to Fairfield Police Station for questioning.

The woman was later charged with stalk/intimidate with intent to cause fear, common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and armed with intent.

She was remanded in custody overnight and will appear in Parramatta Local Court today.

The 11-month-old baby was taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital for assessment as a precaution.

Police subsequently submitted a child at risk notification to the Family and Community Services Department.
