Woman accused of breaching domestic violence order and stabbing man in the face

A WOMAN has spent the night locked up in a police cell after allegedly breaching a domestic violence order and stabbing a man in the face at a house in Far North Queensland.

The 47-year-old is accused of stabbing the man, also 47, at his Nathan Street home in the Townsville suburb of Aitkenvale around 10.45pm last night.

It’s understood the woman had travelled roughly 1,100 kilometres to Townsville from her hometown of Doomadgee near the Qld-Northern Territory border in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Police said an argument between the couple escalated and the man was stabbed in the face and leg.

The local man was transported to Townsville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The woman fled the scene but was found a short time later, allegedly hiding out at a nearby house.

She was arrested and charged with unlawful wounding and contravention of a domestic violence order.

The 47-year-old was remanded in custody and due to front Townsville Magistrates Court today.
