Woman airlifted to hospital after being violently bashed, locked in bathroom by man

A man will appear in court today after a woman was violently bashed in a Lavington home last night.

About 7pm, a 44-year-old woman was at a friend’s house in Klose Street, socialising with her friend and a 41-year-old man.

During the course of the evening, it’s alleged the man seriously assaulted the woman and locked her in the bathroom.

The woman was eventually able to contact police after the man left.

The seriously injured woman was taken to Albury Base Hospital before being airlifted to The Royal Melbourne Hospital with multiple fractures of her eye sockets, cheek bones and a suspected neck fracture.

Police arrested a 41-year-old man earlier this morning at another Lavington address.

He has since been charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, and detain person occasioning actual bodily harm.

The man was refused bail and is expected to appear before Albury Local Court today (Thursday 3 September 2015).
