Woman arrested after hydroponic set up discovered following fire

A woman has been charged after a hydroponic set up was discovered following a house fire today.

About 2.30am today police were called to a home on Austin Avenue, Beverly Hills, following reports of a fire.

A 42-year-old woman was located at the house suffering smoke inhalation. She was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics.

Attending officers allegedly located a large hydroponic set up at the location.

The woman was arrested by police and taken to Kogarah Police Station where she was charged with use/consume electricity without permission.

She was refused bail and will appear in Sutherland Local Court today (2 December 2015).

Detectives attached to St George Local Area Command continue to make inquiries and would like to speak to anyone who may have information about the incident.

The fire is being treated as suspicious.

Police will allege the house had been altered for the purpose of cultivating cannabis, including by-passed electricity supply.

Police warn of the high risk of injury or death when electrical fittings or diversions are carried out by non-qualified persons.
