Woman arrested after child’s body found

A WOMAN has been arrested over the suspicious death of an eight-year-old boy whose body was found on Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula.

The child’s body was located at an address on Alma Street in Tootgarook, 80km south of Melbourne’s CBd, shortly after 1.30pm, Victoria Police said. It is not yet known how the boy died.

Police said his death is being treated as suspicious and is being investigated by the state’s Homicide Squad.


A 41-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and is currently “assisting police with their enquiries”.

The woman’s relationship to the child was not immediately known but police said she is believed to have known the boy.

“Police are yet to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death however it is being treated as suspicious at this stage,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“Investigators are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.”
