Woman bashed during attempted robbery

UPDATE – A woman has been viciously attacked after she refused to comply with a robber’s demands during a terrifying attempted armed hold up at Palm Beach.

Today investigators have updated media, revealing that the man allegedly armed himself with a metal pipe and entered a fish and chip shop on Seventh Avenue at around 9pm last night.

The man allegedly targeted a female Owner Operator who refused to hand over any money and was bashed with the weapon.

The woman’s been taken to Gold Coast University Hospital after suffering a broken collar bone, broken arm, lacerations, bruising and an injury to her back.

The shop was closeed at the time and there was a staff member out front, but they were not able to reach the back of the store quickly enough.

Police set up a crime scene at the store and the dog squad was used to try and track down the man who remains at large.

He is described as being around 180cms tall. Police say he had his face covered with a t-shirt with a hole in it so he could see.  Some clothing was found in a nearby alleyway.

Police are appealing to anyone who may be able to assist with their investigations to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
