Woman busted allegedly 5x the alcohol limit after crashing car

A WOMAN has been caught allegedly driving more than five times the legal alcohol limit after crashing her car into a van at Coffs Harbour.

Police say the 50-year-old was driving her Toyota Starlet south along the Pacific Highway around 6.30pm on Wednesday, when she allegedly collided with the back of a van that was waiting at a red light at the intersection of Beryl Street.

“Both drivers got out of their vehicles and, after exchanging details, the driver of the van contacted police,” NSW police said in a statement.

Officers rushed to the scene and breath tested the woman, with the test allegedly providing a positive reading.

The driver was arrested and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where she provided an alleged breath analysis reading of 0.252.

She was charged with high-range drink diving and is due to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday 4 February.

The woman’s licence was also suspended.
