Woman busted trying to smuggle 2kg of cocaine in ‘baby bump’

Some criminals go to extraordinary lengths to try and smuggle drugs, but this woman’s attempt may just take the cake – or should we say watermelon.

Brazilian Police have taken to social media to share the moment they discovered a woman’s baby bump was actually a hollow watermelon stashed with 2kg of cocaine.

According to authorities, the 38-year-old woman was travelling on a tour bus to Rio de Janeiro on November 29, when fellow passengers became suspicious of her stomach.

They alerted police, who attended the scene and made the shock discovery.

In a post on Facebook, Sao Paulo State Military Police said that after searching the woman, they discovered her ‘baby bump’ was in fact a carved-out watermelon containing 2kg of cocaine paste which had been wrapped up into four ‘bricks’.

“The woman confessed that she had bought the drugs in Paraguay and that she would be taking it to Rio de Janeiro,” police said.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and is currently awaiting trial.
