Woman charged over alleged child approach at Sydney shopping centre

A WOMAN has been charged after she allegedly led a two-year-old child away from a cafe in a Sydney shopping centre.

The frightening incident unfolded just before 1.00pm yesterday, whilst the toddler was with his mother at a cafe in Bankstown.

Police say the woman allegedly approached the child, grabbed hold of his hand and led him away.

“The child’s mother chased after the woman and grabbed hold of her son; the woman fled from the location,” NSW police said in a statement.

Following investigations into the incident, detectives arrested a 34-year-old woman at the shopping complex in Bankstown around 10.30am today.

She was taken to Bankstown Police Station where she was charged with common assault and trespass.

She was refused bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court tomorrow.
