Woman charged with issuing fake COVID medical exemptions

A woman has been charged on the Gold Coast, accused of pretending to be a doctor and issuing hundreds of COVID exemption certificates.

Police issued a search warrant at a home on Robert St in Labrador on Wednesday morning, arresting a 45-year-old woman.

The woman is alleged to have told Police that she issued around 600 false medical exemption certificates.

The certificates stated that the person was exempt from having COVID tests, getting a vaccine and wearing a mask.

The woman has been charged with five counts of taking a title indicating a person is a health practitioner.

She’s the first person in Queensland to be charged with that offence.

The woman will front Southport Magistrates Courts on October 28.

Investigations are continuing.
