Woman critical, three serious after horror crash on New England Hwy
A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition and three other people are seriously injured following a horror head-on crash in the NSW Hunter Valley.
Police said a Holden Commodore and a Mazda sedan collided on the New England Highway at Wingen around 9.30am on Thursday.
The passenger of the Commodore, a 43-year-old woman from Moree, suffered life-threatening injuries. She was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
The 35-year-old man who was behind the wheel of the Holden was seriously injured, as was the two occupants of the Mazda – a 54-year-old woman and 57-year-old man.
All three patients were rushed by ambulance to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
A crime scene was established while the Crash Investigation Unit forensically examined the site.
The New England Highway was partially closed during the incident but has since re-opened.
