Woman cut with knife during violent bag snatch

A woman has been cut with a knife when her bag was stolen on a street in Glebe this morning.

The 20-year-old woman has told police she was walking along Pyrmont Bridge Road about 3.30am, when a man approached her and demanded her bag.

A struggle ensued before the man ran away with her bag. The woman chased him but the man escaped after climbing over a locked gate into a building site at the intersection of Wattle and Fig Streets at Ultimo.


The woman reported the incident to police and the area was searched by police on foot, assisted by a police dog team; however, the man couldn’t be found.

The woman sustained a minor superficial wound to her abdomen during the struggle.

Police from Leichardt Local Area Command wish to speak with a man they believe can assist with this investigation.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his early 20s, about 180cm tall, with short light hair, wearing a red top, and grey tracksuit pants.
