Woman dies in custody at Gold Coast police station

THE Ethical Standards Command is investigating the death of a woman who died while being held in custody at a police station on the Gold Coast.

The 50-year-old woman died at the Southport Watch-house on Thursday morning.

Queensland Police said early information suggested the woman may have suffered a medical condition.

Despite desperate attempts by police to resuscitate her, she could not be saved and died at the station.

The Queensland Police Service Ethical Standards Command has been called on to investigate the death.

The independent internal investigation will be overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

The woman’s death has been reported to the State Coroner.
