Woman dies in hospital after being run over in shopping centre car park

A WOMAN who sustained life-threatening injuries after being run over by a car outside a shopping centre in Far North Queensland has died in hospital.

The 72-year-old was struck by a car as it exited a carpark at Atherton around 2.30pm on Tuesday.

Police said the car was being driven by a 75-year-old man who was known to the woman. He is believed to have been her husband.

The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to Atherton Hospital in a critical condition.

Sadly, her injuries were too severe and police released a statement on Wednesday morning confirming that she had since passed away.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
