Woman dragged into bushes, sexually assaulted by stranger

A manhunt is underway after a woman was grabbed by an unknown man and sexually assaulted in bushes whilst on her morning walk in Townsville.

Police said the 66-year-old woman was walking on a pathway next to the river near Victor Street in Cranbrook around 6.00am when the attack happened.

The woman suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to the Townsville University Hospital for treatment.

A crime scene has now been established near the river, with investigations underway.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed anything suspicious is being urged to contact police.

Detectives said the man is described as having a large build.
