Woman escapes armed man who robbed Southport servo

A man is on the run after robbing a Southport service station and attempting to steal a woman’s car.

He entered the Ferry Road servo just before 9pm on Monday and jumped the counter while brandishing a metal bar.

He demanded the two workers open the till, before snatching a handful of cash and taking off.

He then approached a woman who was inside her parked car on Zircon Street and tried to get in the driver’s side door.

Incredibly, the woman managed to drive away before he could get inside.

She returned a short time later and spoke with police at the scene.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
