Woman escapes from alleged kidnapper on the Gold Coast

A man has been charged over a terrifying kidnapping in the Moreton Bay region which ended on the Gold Coast.

The 31-year-old man is accused of going to the home of a woman in Burpengary East around 1pm on July 15 before threatening her with a gun.

He is then alleged to have forced the woman into a grey Hyundai i30.

The pair travelled south on the M1 before stopping in traffic at Tallebudgera around 2.30 that afternoon.

The woman managed to escape the vehicle and alerted New South Wales paramedics who were nearby.

The paramedics then took the woman to the Elanora Police Beat while the men returned to Burpengary East.

The woman suffered bruising to her face during the alleged kidnapping.

The man was arrested on Tuesday and has been charged with 10 offences including kidnapping, assault occasioning bodily harm, unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He fronted Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody.

He will reappear in court on September 27.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the grey Hyundai i30 or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them.
