Woman faces court over newborn murder

A Gold Coast mother has faced court after being charged with murdering her newborn baby.

Jodie Tarnawskyj was arrested on Friday, and after facing a courtroom yesterday, has been remanded in custody until she heads back to court in February.

It is understood the 35-year-old mother claimed her baby was stillborn, after giving birth at her home in June.

She allegedly called an ambulance hours after the birth to find out what to do with the body.

However a lack of evidence suggesting a natural death resulted in a protracted investigation into how the boy died.

Police allege there were also inconsistencies with her account of what took place.
