Woman found dead at Queensland resort was murdered, police say

A MAN has been charged with murder following the death of a 71-year-old woman at a resort in Cairns.

The woman was found dead in a room at the Coral Sands Beachfront Resort at Trinity Beach on Saturday.

Police were called to the resort on the corner of Trinity Beach Road and Moore Street around 7.30am.

It is not yet known how or exactly what time the woman died.

A 60-year-old man was arrested at the resort and has since been charged with murder.

Police said the man was known to the woman.

He is due to front Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday.
