Woman found dead in back of crashed car in Central West NSW

POLICE have launched a critical incident investigation following a fatal crash in central west NSW last night.

Police said officers were conducting patrols of the Orange area when they observed a vehicle and turned around to follow it just after 11pm.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle crashed off to the side of Ophir Road.


A woman was found dead in a rear passenger seat. She is yet to be formally identified.

A male passenger was located at the scene uninjured, while the driver and a third passenger fled the scene.

A critical incident team from Western Region will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be overseen by the Professional Standards Command and all information will be provided to the Coroner.

No further details are available at this time, however, police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
