Woman found dead in NSW house fire

A woman has tragically died after a house fire in New South Wales this morning.

Emergency services were called to a property in the state’s Riverina region around 6.15am, after a 41-year-old woman woke to the smell of smoke.

Fire and Rescue officers arrived to the house on Tichborne Crescent, Kooringal, to find neighbours and the woman still trying to rescue another woman who was believed to be inside.

Their attempts were unsuccessful.

Once firefighters had extinguished the blaze, the body of a woman in her 30s was found inside the home.

She’s yet to be formally identified.

Investigations are underway into what might have sparked the blaze, and a crime scene has been established.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
